The most helpful warm up during this unit for me would probably be the pen cubes. The pen cubes really helped my pen technique and showing me how to draw with pens, which isn’t something I would normally do. Composition is the arrangement of elements in a work of art and how you perceive it. Value is an element that defines the lights and dark's in an artwork. Both of these elements are present for any artist and any artwork. The pros for a pencil drawing are its erasable, the pencil tip is small allowing more details, and the artist can control the value in their artwork. The cons are the pencil lines can be smudged. Then, the pros for a pen drawing are the lines are permanent, creates a greater contrast against the paper, and you don’t need to sharpen a pen. The cons are it’s not erasable and more expensive. Lastly, the pros for charcoal drawings are you can fix mistakes easier. The cons are that charcoal is very messy and it’s hard to draw small details.
Sujay Sanan is a watercolor artist who now lives and works in South Africa. Sanan moved from the Himalayas in 2013, which is when he began his art career. His series, “A Place I Know”, is his current work that takes animals and forms them as outlines for outdoor landscapes. Sanan’s work highlights the beauty of our extraordinary earth and really shows us what we miss out on, which is what really draws me in. Looking at his work actually inspires me to help conserve our planet and just respect nature as it is. His intake and capability shown on his artwork really shines, making me choose him as an artists that inspires me. His website link is https://sujaysanan.com/.
